Press Comments about Embassy Circle and Woodley Park Guest House
"Two Glorious DC Inns"
Read the entire article on windlost.blogspot
"Owners Courtney and Joe were so incredibly friendly we felt like we were home from the instant we arrived! Courtney was the one who arranged for our emergency reservation at her sister's inn, Embassy Circle, after we decided to stay a fourth night in DC. Not only did Courtney get us a room at Embassy Circle (for a reduced rate) but also drove us over there with our suitcases in the morning and showed us in! That's kindness of the highest order. No wonder Woodley Park is rated in the Top 5 DC B&B's on Trip Advisor!" |
What a delightful surprise to find this incredible blog entry on the web recently.
Terri and David of Calgary, Alberta, Canada stayed with us in September 2009 - 3 days at Woodley and 1 at Embassy. Terri, who writes the Windlost blog with a focus on home renovation, provides a comprehensive and highly readable description of her stay with us. She includes some great photos of both inns, including some updated shots of Woodley's new dining room. Enjoy!
"A marvelous B&B that I wish the owners would clone all across the country"

"It was with a sense of utter joy that we recently found a marvelous B&B in Washington, DC that I wish the owners would clone all across the country. Located on stylish, quiet and safe Embassy Row and just steps from Dupont Circle and the Metro, the Inn was a former embassy that laid dormant for 20 years before innkeepers purchased it in 2003. After a meticulous renovation that uncovered lots of surprises, they opened the Inn in 2007."

Wow! Thank you Jim! "Jim Flynn's Best Weekend" is required reading for everyone who wants to make the most of a short getaway. His love of travel and his delight in finding new things to do in old favorite places is evident in everything he writes - whether he is writing about Boston, New York, Savannah, Charleston, Philadelphia or Washington, DC.
"Staying with friends at the Embassy Circle Guest House in Washington, DC"
Read the entire review by Jon Rochetti, The DC Traveler
"The Embassy Circle Guest House in Washington, DC brings true meaning to the word – hospitality. This is not a bed and breakfast offering simply a room, but a place where you can feel at home while meeting interesting people from around the globe.... The Embassy Circle definitely gives its guests the feeling that they are staying at the home of good friends, as you are made to feel welcomed and as part of the family. Within minutes of arriving, I had met several of the guests, most visiting from overseas." |
Another great blog that keeps its focus on Washington, DC is The DC Traveler. Written by Jon Rochetti, The DC Traveler is a must-read for visitors and residents alike. There is SO MUCH to do in DC, and Jon culls the choices and comes up with winners every time. And, he is a great cook, an irresistible combination in a city where food is almost as important as politics!
"From Eyesore to Asset: Reborn as a B&B"
Read the exciting story of the Embassy Circle Guest House renovation project in the Washington Post
"It's an often-idle fancy that has beckoned many who have flirted with the idea of buying a charming old house. But the Sabas had a plan. They set their sights on a vacant 100-year-old mansion near Embassy Row. The building's 8,250 square feet would allow them the 10 guest rooms they figured they needed to make it profitable. And it was less than a mile from their guesthouse, which they planned to continue operating. In September 2003, their $1 million bid for the house at 2224 R St. NW was accepted. That's when the complications began to mount." |
We don't want anyone to miss this fascinating article, published in the Washington Post, on our 3 1/2 year renovation project. And here is the link to the renovation photos, which will give you a pretty good idea of the size and scope of the project. It was definitely a labor of love! Embassy Circle GUEST HOUSE
“Thank you for the best hospitality I have ever encountered in my travels around the world. Your guest house is truly beautiful and exquisitely comfortable. The location - a safe and beautiful neighborhood of elegant period homes, close to the Metro and many excellent neighborhood restaurants, cafes, shops and art galleries – could not be more pleasant or convenient. Thoughtfulness is evident in everything, from the bedside lamps, to the highest quality foods for breakfast. But above all, I appreciated the warmth and sincerity with which you and your staff welcomed me and made me feel at home throughout my stay.”
Camrose Burdon - Ottawa, Canada
“We have stayed in many excellent B&B’s in several countries in the last few years, and Embassy Circle is up there with the very best. A beautiful home in an excellent location, with hospitality that would be hard to beat. If we failed to complete our sightseeing schedule, it was only because we spent far too long at the breakfast table enjoying the company of our fellow guests and hosts.”
Jane & Tim Rowley - Wonersh, Guildford, UK

“Thank you all for allowing me to share in the warmth of your home. My stay was wonderful. I especially enjoyed the conversation at the breakfast table. These types of interactions make one’s stay so unsterile and so unlike staying in the average hotel.”

“We found this to be an excellent location; lovely house, comfortable, clean and with a friendly welcoming atmosphere. Plenty of local knowledge given by owners and staff. Everyone is extremely helpful and kind. The breakfasts are ideal and the round-the-table company is pleasant and interesting. Our hosts were quick to introduce everyone and put them at their ease. Cannot fault our stay. Wonderful! And we mean it!”

“How wonderful to find a place to stay that replaces TV and the isolation of traveling with good conversation, interesting people and a wealth of reading material, not to mention a great breakfast. Having traveled the world in 4- and 5-star hotels, I’ll take the Woodley Park Guest House every time.”

I was so thankful to have a home away from home “amidst it all.” Your location could not be any better - close to everything via metro and so much to enjoy right here in the safe neighborhood! We so appreciated your laid back, yet professional attitude. We will return.
