Union Station

Trains
There is a free shuttle that constantly shuttles between BWI and the Amtrak BWI Airport Station. There are three types of trains that run at different times from the station to Union Station in Washington, DC. From Union Station, take the Metro (subway) Red Line to the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan Metro stop. All train options take about an hour and a half.

The first and cheapest is the MARC (Maryland Commuter Rail weekdays only) at approximately $6 one way, from The Amtrak BWI Airport Station to Union Station in Washington, DC. This is a good cheap rail option.

The second cheapest is the Amtrak regular. You can buy your tickets in advance, online, or at the station. Prices are higher on holidays and weekends.

The third train option is the Accela Express Amtrak Train. It runs from Boston, MA, to Washington, DC and is First and Business Class only. The trains are new (less than a year old) and have a greater comfort. Just as above you can call Amtrak or go online to book in advance and pay less. This is a great option for those who come on business, require a work area, and/or a business environment.

All of the trains end at Union Station and you can take the Red Line Metro (subway) at Union Station. Get on the Metro heading towards Shady Grove. Woodley Park Zoo/Adams Morgan Metro stop is six (6) Metro Stations away. Metro Time is about 10 minutes, and cost is usually $1.35 one way each.

Bus/Metro (subway) Combination
There is an express bus that runs every 40 min. from BWI to the Greenbelt Metro Station. Cost is $2.00 and time is about 40 min. At the Greenbelt Metro Station, take the Green Line to Fort Totten Station (fourth stop). Transfer to the Red Line heading towards Shady Grove. Exit at the Woodley Park Zoo/Adams Morgan Metro Station (10th stop). Metro time is about 28 minutes, and the cost is usually $2...10 each person. Total time varies between an hour and a half and two hours, depending on when you arrive and the bus arrives. This is the best option for those who are familiar and comfortable with public transportation. The Metro website is www.wmata.com or www.metroopensdoors.com. They have some good maps.
